Lipstick Frequently Asked Questions

Aren't you a gothic cosmetic site, why do you have non gothic colors?
As we grew as a business during the 90's and 00's, our customers would tell us that they loved our dramatic colors but often wanted something that they could wear to work without being overly dramatic. Ta-da, our new selection was born!
Do you sent out samples?
In the past we used to send out lipstick scrape samples, but found that once they reached their destination they were dried out (due to not being in a fairly airtight case like a lipstick case is). Dried out color doesn't make for good testability!
Do you sent out swatches?
Yup - if you want to see a swatch on paper of a particular lipstick color, just ask. Since this is a one-person business, I can't do full swatch sheets for everyone, I can swatch you 5 colors though and send it on with an order.
Why are your handblended colors more/so expensive?
When I set our prices, I took into account our intial equipment investment (which I still have not recouped), development time to come up with a good shade, and time that it takes us to make lipsticks. I make no apologies for our price structure.
I purchased a shade from you that I no long see on your site, is there a way to still purchase it?
If it was a handblended color, we can make it for you if you want to purchase 2 and if we still have the formula. If it was a non-handblended color, it's still worth an Email - let us know what you're looking for =)
I have an idea for a color, can you make it for me?
Though we're happy to hear your color ideas, we do not think that custom color blending over the internet is currently viable given varying monitor settings and different personal color definitions (one person's 'plum' is another's 'violet'!)
Can you recommend a good color for me?
Recommending a good color over the internet is always an exercize in frustration. Sometimes we get sent photos to rec for, and they can vary from being in natural sunlight to being in the dim light of a club. It's difficult to try to make a rec based on either extreme, since computer monitors vary SO widely on how they display colors!

Ever watch a makeover show? Don't you wonder what happens after the makeover? A lot of times when they follow up, they find that folks are doing what they did pre-makeover. It's natural for us to be happy within our own comfort zone, which is why I always recommend letting ones past experience be their guide.

I do try to give as specific of verbal descriptions of products as I can - but when it comes to recommending specifics, I'm afraid that I'd be at a loss. =( I always recommend finding someone that you look like and admire - and seeing if you can pick up products that match things that they use as a starting point to finding your own look!
What are the ingredients?
Ingredients vary from lipstick to lipstick, formula to formula. The correct ingredients are linked to on each lipstick's own page.
Is animal testing involed with any of the products you sell?
No.
Are your products vegan?
No, we recommend trying one of the brands that you see at your local health food store for vegan options.
