It all started with our Femme Fatale wig. Innocent, beautiful, very styleable. Her pricetag - $36.00
But the cries of the people resonated "We love the Femme Fatale, but we seek a less expensive wig for costuming!"
We've added to our line a new Femme Fatale .. a *false* Femme Fatale.. the Faux Fatale at a lesser price. We know how it is to try to costume on a budget so we want to offer an alternative selection for you. =)
In the interest of helping you decide which would be the best Fatale for you, we have this page. We did a few comparisons of the wigs on some different points
Look and Feel

They sure look the same - in fact the measurements for both wigs are almost identical. Any difference can be attributed to how much they were shaken out of their style before photographing, or in how each factory processed those wigs on that particular day
These wigs were quickly plopped onto foam wig heads for evaluation. The two Faux Fatales on the right had a disturbing straight 'hump' right where the front hairline is
Paniced, this researcher contacted someone who knew more about these wigs than she did. The response - factory error. With some working up and down of the front hairline, perhaps with light heat applied, the front will sit evenly. In fact, this even happens to some of our Femme Fatales and Enchantment wigs. It's easily managed.
The Faux Fatale tends to feel a little bit softer than the Femme Fatale.
Both wigs were color 613A, but the Faux Fatale tended to be a bit yellower. That's simply due to dye lot differences with the wig fiber.
Fit
This researcher tends to have a large head, and so each was tried on. The Faux Fatale fit a little bit better. Your results may vary - both wigs are very adjustable
Dyeability
This test was conducted using Katie Bair's wig dye because it's a known variable and the only prepackaged wig dye that I know of. My application job and the wig's dyeability will be the unknown variables.
On went the dye on both. Comb comb comb. Heat Heat Heat. Rinse Rinse Rinse
Allowing for potential uneveness in application (meaning, I'm not great at wig dyeing yet =)), they both look pretty good.
During rinsing, the Femme Fatale got to the desired point where no color was coming off of the fiber. The Faux Fatale never got to this point. If I put it right now under water, some color would still be coming off.
Hair density
Both wigs weigh in at a nice 6.6 ounces. Further tests will be done to determine if part of that is due to one skin top being heavier than the other, but I digress
The Faux Fatale on the right seems to have less hair on the skin top than the Femme Fatale on the left.
Both wigs were stretched the same amount - they're both inside out over the same style of foam head. The Faux Fatale has wefts that are 1/2inch apart, moving slightly farther apart as you reach the bottom of the wig. The Femme Fatale on the left has wefts that are 1/4inch apart, moving slightly farther apart as you reach the bottom of the wig.
Conclusion?
I don't have a set conclusion. I wanted to test both wigs so that *you* could better judge which would be best for your needs. I hope that this guide helped - please feel free to contact me at amphigory@amphigory.com if you have any other questions about these two styles!
